The CCRC would like to congratulate Cheryl Perera, Founder and President of OneChild and CCRC Director, on her continued advocacy and work against the sexual exploitation and trafficking of children. On National Child Day, Cheryl Perera on behalf of OneChild, received the inaugural Cherry Kingsley Commemorative Award presented by Senator Kim Pate at the Landon Pearson Resource Centre for the Study of Childhood and Children’s Rights, Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada.
“When I was a child activist first starting out in the children rights movement at age 16, the name Cherry Kingsley kept coming up. I read about this child survivor who had overcome the unthinkable, and how she used her trauma to shine the spotlight on the plight of children just like her. And as a child activist, I admired Cherry deeply, even though we would never get the chance to meet.
She showed Canada and the world that children weren’t just helpless victims in need of saving, they were experts in their own right, with talent, creativity, dynamism, that should be harness by the movement”.
Cheryl Perera, O.Ont, LL.D honoris causa, Founder and President, OneChild Network & Support Inc.
