Philosophical questions & children’s rights

CCRC Board Member Candace Amarante has recently published a dialogue called, “Let’s not talk about it anymore” in Questions: Philosophy for Young People, a very unique journal that publishes work that explores philosophical questions by children and adults alike. Candace was inspired to write this dialogue after considering Article 14 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which respects the rights of parents and/or guardians to guide their children on what to believe and what religion they should practice. The article does not really speak of instances where parents and/or guardians may not always be the best guides  (sometimes their beliefs may be biased, racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic., etc.). “Let’s not talk about it anymore” is written for children in situations where they are morally conflicted on what to believe and whether to behave in accordance with the beliefs of their parents/guardians.
