November 20 is National Child Day in Canada and World Children’s Day internationally, recognizing the global adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the universal rights of children.

UNICEF Canada will mark the 35th birthday of the Convention by hosting the annual Youth Advocacy Summit: Listen to the Future. Tuesday November 19: Community Launch in Ottawa of Campaign 2000’s national annual report card on child and family poverty, Ending Child Poverty: The Time is NOW

To mark the 35th anniversary of the all-party federal resolution to end child poverty, Campaign 2000: End Child and Family Poverty will be releasing its set of national, provincial, territorial and Toronto child and family report cards on November 19.  You are cordially invited you to join the community launch of the 2024 annual national report cards on child and family poverty, Ending Child Poverty: The Time is NOW.  Poverty is on the rise in Canada. The report cards signal the need for urgent action; the time to act is now. 

The launch will include presentations, guest speakers, facilitated dialogues and a press conference.  Refreshments and good conversation provided! Stay tuned for more information about speakers and programming.

November 20-21, the Interdisciplinary Research Group on Child’s Rights (GRIDE), University of Moncton will be holding its International Symposium Highlighting Children’s Rights Week, “Children and their right to be different: Current situation, levers for action, challenges and future perspectives”. Registration and the full program can be found on their website.

Participatory Methodologies with Children and Young People From Indigenous Populations

The first presentation of this event will be by Bernie Kelly, Tapiwa Chigiya, and Admire Chereni: “We are one another’s strength”: Exploring a Peer Research Approach to Researching Youth Transitions from Care in Africa.

The second presentation will be by Afua Twum-Danso Imoh: “Reflections on Participatory Methodologies with Children in Ghana and Nigeria”.

There will be 30 minutes for a Q&A with the presenters. Speakers will present in English, with Zoom translated captioning provided.
