A reminder that the CCRC’s first annual writing competition closes June 1. This contest is open to students in Canada from grades 4 through 12. Please share widely with your networks!!

Each student is eligible to submit one (1) creative piece. This year, the focus will be on racism and discrimination. Participants will be asked to address one of the following questions: 1) How have racism and discrimination affected their lives? 2) What does Article 2 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UN CRC) means to them? 3) What are the different ways of taking action against racism and discrimination?
The competition accepts submissions of creative writing pieces (fiction or nonfiction) of no more than 1000 words from young writers all across Canada in either English or French. Three prizes will be awarded in three categories:
- Elementary (Grades 4 to 6)
- Junior (Grades 7 to 9)
- Senior (Grades 10 to 12).
Prizes: First Place: $100; Second Place: $50; Third Place: $25. First prize winners in each category will be invited to read their work at the CCRC Annual General Meeting. Selected pieces will be published on the CCRC website.
