Children’s Right to Privacy in the Digital World
CCRC and 5Rights Foundation (a CCRC member) invite you to a discussion on children’s right to privacy in the digital world on Monday 21 July @ 12:00pm EDT | 09:00am PDT. Featuring perspectives from leading voices in civil society and academia, this webinar will be an opportunity to discuss the monetisation of children’s personal information, how children’s right to privacy applies in the digital world, and its importance to the realisation of children’s rights as a whole. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) is launching a Youth Advisory Council
On June 20th, the CCRC attended the opening of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada/Commissariat à la protection de la vie privée du Canada's 2025 Privacy Symposium – Youth privacy in a digital age. Privacy Commissioner Philippe Dufresne noted the importance of respecting children’s privacy rights and designing “services and products with strong protections for the personal information of children”. The CCRC is looking forward to consultations on the development of a children’s privacy code and a child-rights based approach. To further support this work and ensure that children are active participants in these discussions, the OPC launched a Youth Advisory Council (ages 13-17), "a space for young people to share their insights, experiences and ideas on the privacy challenges that matter the most to them". For more information on how to apply, visit the OPC website.
